Nepal and Bhutan Mission Trip 2007

Greetings my friends in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ who said "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."

This is the missions trip to Nepal and Bhutan in which I journaled the activities and all that the Lord was doing. May you be blessed and encouraged by the goodness of God.

Wednesday April 11, 2007. I am sitting in the visitors lounge at the airport in Dehli, India. I am awaiting my final flight into Kathmandu, Nepal where I will be reunited with Jesse and Jaime Boyd and their daughter, Bethany. They have been over in this part of the world since September of 2006. I started this journey on Monday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m., leaving Platte, SD for Omaha, NE., where my originating flight started. The traveling has gone reasonably well and the Lord has certainly given me strength. The Bible says "the Lord goes ahead and prepares a place to encamp." I have a sense of peace and excitement in this journey and truly believe the Lord is directing my steps. Psalm 4:4-5 " Stand in awe and sin not; meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Offer sacrifices of righteousness. And trust in the Lord."

As I have meditated upon the above scripture, I have really been impressed with the idea that the Lord is communicating, "to stand in awe", and as other scriptures say, "Be still and know that I am God." In verse 6 it says "who will show us any good? Lift up the light of your countenace upon us." One of the things a person must realize in evangelism is how depraved mankind is. The very fact that we can openly share in Kathmandu, Nepal which is a buddist and hindu country is enough to make me stand in awe of the greatness of our God. Lord, forgive me for not seeing the awesomeness of you in all of this, or taking it for granted and counting it a common thing. My prayer Lord is that you would "lift up your countenance upon me." In other words let me see this mission for what it truly is and be in "awe of You."

This first day is one of just getting settled, re-visiting friendships with the Boyd's and preparing for tomorrows departure for three days to several villages. Yes, I did lose my luggage, however by the grace of God it did arrive with everything in it. Proverbs 12:17 "He who speaketh truth, showeth forth righteounsess; but a false witness deceit." One of the things that I have been thinking about and feel impressed to share with the Nepali people is in regards to forgiveness of sins and the guilt and the shame that come with sin and how their gods cannott take this away because they have not the power to (Hebrews 9:14). Tomorrow, the work begins!!!

Thursday April 12, 2007. A.M.. We have loaded up a van with Bibles, Gospel's of John and many tracts and will be going to several villages and cities distributing and sharing the good news of the Gospel. There are nine of us, Jesse, Jaimie and their daughter Bethany; Bishnu, Bimi and their daughter Biji, myself and the driver and his helper, who are unconverted. P.M. The Lord has given us favor today and the word of God went out in abundance. We handed out over 1000 copies of the Gospel of John. There doesn't seem to be many churches in these villages and a real need for the word of God to be distributed in mass qauntities. I was able to share with two groups of young adults today. I was suprised to see that not only do they have their false religions of Buddism and Hinduism, but in the schools they are teaching the children evolution. I spoke to them about the new life that Christ gives and that we need and one young man said, "I like my life, why would I want a new life?" He couldn't put the eternal perspective into place, that the reason he needed Christ was to be forgiven from his sins and be acceptable to God. He didn't seem concerned about that, however if I would of shared with him about Jesus giving love, joy, peace and happiness and improving his life here, perhaps he would have added Jesus to his list of gods. That would be exactly the false gospel that is being preached today in America. Scratch them where it itches, a life improvement Jesus. Not a Jesus that calls people to repentance and faith in Him.

One of the things I asked the groups was, "do you know if your sins are forgiven?" Many said they didn't know if their sins were forgiven. I asked them why, couldn't their gods tell them this? They had blank stares and were unable to answer. Another question I asked them was if they were willing to die for their gods. Their answer was a resounding, NO!!! Shows how much confidence they have in their false gods. I then posed another question and that was to the affect of, could it be because your gods really don't exist and therefore have no power to forgive you of your sins. This, once again drew a look of emptiness. We then appealed to the fact that they knew they had sinned, that they had a conscience that convicted them of their sin and that came from their Creator, the One True God. Then we explained the cross and the need to be saved from our sin and condemnation that would follow. They took Gospel's of John as well as tracts and were thankful for our visit. We visited two villages today and shared Christ with many. This part of the country is very beatiful and mountaneous. It takes quite awhile to go from village to another. The Lord really gave us favor and divine appointments.

Friday April 13, 2007. Today, we continue our distribution of Gospel literature and the proclamation of the Gospel to the villages in this province. This morning I was able to share with many school children and teenagers, which ended up drawing a good crowd right in the center of town. We were also able to give a Bible to a believer who didn't have one. She requested four, for her friends who are believers, but didn't have Bibles. This struck me as peculiar and made me question why. Obviously, many cannott afford them, their church's included. A great need is to be able to supply church's with Bibles and Gospel literature for the believers. Another believer, after we had handed out all the Bibles, asked for a "full Bible" and we were unable to give her one. It was sad to have to say that. However, she was grateful for the Gospel of John we gave her and indicated she could use the contact information and request for a Bible and we would get her one. Later, she bought us bananas and thanked us for what we were doing. That gesture of love was much appreciated. I thank of the lady who gave of her last two coins and the Lord saying, she gave ALL of what she had, where the others gave out of their abundance. I didn't sleep very well last night and after laboring in the heat today I am ready for a good rest. The Lord is good and what a blessing to be able to come to this country and proclaim the good news. He truly does give His children the desires of their heart. Why? Because He put them their.

P.M. We are staying at an hotel of a believer, name Phil. He and hsi family love the Lord and he has quite a ministry himself working with the youth of the area. We were able to give two boxes of the Gospel of John to a Pastor from the area, which is roughly 760 in number. This is also part of "Project Jagerna", which is to translate the word of God into Nepali, produce it for as little cost as possible and then be able to distribute to individuals as well as churches free of charge as the Lord provides. Tonight is the Nepali New Year, 2064. How they came up with that I don't know. Anyway, there will be much partying in the town of Pokhara, tonight somewhat similar to the debauchery of our New Year, just another reason to drink our problem's away or so we think.

Saturday April 14, 2007 As we went out today,we unloaded 10 Boxes of Bibles, which contain about 1100 Bibles. We handed them out in a little over an hour. We were right by the entrance to the fair and it was a great location and many were excited to get a copy of the word of God. We told them that this was from the mouth of God, written for them and that they needed to heed the words of their Creator. Many, thought it interesting that God would be personal enough to write down His words for us. Their concept of their gods is one of them being so distance and almost unreachable. In sharing Christ we have had to go back to the story of Creation and many are in "wonder" about this One God who is all powerful, sovereign and actually Created them to know Him and worship Him.

In the afternoon we went into a very poor part of town and distributed Gospel's of John as well as tracts and large heavy duty socks. The reason for that is, in this area it gets very cold in the winter months, so this is something that is very useful to them in the proper season. They were very grateful. There was a river that ran by this village and we went down there to just soak in the beauty of the Lord's creation and many children and several adults followed. They were intrigued by us and sat on the rocks watching us. I felt led to share the Lord with them. They listened attentively. Afterwords I asked Bishnu, the interpretor to ask one particular lady what she thought of the message and of Christ. She agreed that the message was true and believed that Christ was who He said He was. I told her through Bishnu, that being the case she must follow the Lord. As we went back to the van I noticed our driver, who is not a Christian was reading the Bible. I looked at him and said, "Good news" and smiled and he smiled back and agreed. This has been another awesome day of laboring in the Lord's vineyard. I am reminded from Isaiah 55, where the Lord declares that His word will not return void and in 1 Cor. 15, where Paul admonishes them to be steadfast, immovable and always abounding in the work of the Lord because our labor is not in vain. All praise to the God of our salvation.

Sunday April 15, 2007. We will make our way back to the city of Nepal today. It has been three awesome days of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. Many have heard the message, many have received the written word and we are excited as to what the Lord will do for "one sows, another reaps, but God gives the increase. It will be nice to get home and relax before flying out to Bhutan tomorrow for four days of evangelistic endeavors in this country that is closed to the gospel.

We got home safely this afternoon and as we unloaded I asked Bishnu to ask the driver about Christ and if he is ready to follow Him. The reply was that he is thinking about it and contemplating the truth. I encouraged him to keep reading the word of God and ask God for understanding. He said he would. I was encouraged by that. When a Nepali decides to follow Christ, we know like any of us, it is the Spirit of God that draws him. However, before their actual repentance and faith they really count the cost because they know they will ultimatley be outcasts from their families, friends and the cost will be great. I believe that is one thing we must hammer home to Americans, that being the cost to follow Christ, because there is a great one. Anyway, when one turns to Christ here, you know that most times they have counted the cost and are willing to take whatever comes their way.

We went and worshipped with fellow Americans who are national missionaries to this country. Jesse, brought forth the word of God and challenged us all to be bold in our witness and not heed to man made systems or programs of church building. It was challenging and truthful. After all, Jesus said "He would build His church." We must use the Lord's methods of church building and not what man has devised. The second portion of this journey starts tomorrow.

Bhutan

Monday April 16, 2007--We are departing this morning for the country of Bhutan. This country is closed to the gospel. However, we will be going in as tourists and will be traveling and "site seeing" with a fellow believer, who has a tour business. This is the means by which the Lord is using him to get believers in the country to do the work of the Lord. At a cost of $210.00 dollars a day per person this seems to be quite an expensive trip. The Lord in His abundant grace has supplied for the cost. Obviously, He puts no price tag on the worth of one soul or many for that matter. The country is absolutely beautiful. It is a very mountaneous country and reminds me somewhat of the state of Colorado. What a majestic display of the glory of God in His creation.

As we arrived we were, by the grace of God we were able to get through the lines of inspection without them opening our bags. We have packed well over a thousand tracts and other literature pertaining to salvation. The night before we hid them in socks, between our sciffies and anywhere else. I believe God blinded the eyes and hearts of those people to have no desire to check out the luggage. Praise God. As we entered the first town we took some time over "tea" to get to know Karma and find out what it was that he had planned for us. After a while, we tested the waters in the town we flew in to, Thimpu. The first tract I handed out to a person was a great blessing. He came back to me and spoke english and he wanted to know more about what the tract meant. He had heard about Jesus only in a history book and mentioned "good Friday" and the crucifixion. He didn't know why Christ died or what He stood for or came to do. We were able to go through the gospel with him and he was very receptive and open.

We have found that one must start at the beginning with these people, meaning the story of Creation, the Fall of man, the law of God, the cross of Christ. I asked "Sering" what he thought about what we had said. He said, "I think I might believe this" and then asked to have some tracts for his friends. What an opening gesture of God's faithfulness. It reminded me of the story of the "women at the well" in John 4. We continued to hand out tracts with very little resistance and the people of Bhutan seem very nice and receptive.

After a couple of hours, we met up with Karma again and proceeded to go to "Longo Fellowship" to meet with a small group of believers. What a great experience as they were so open and excited to see us. We were able to encourage them to fight the fight of faith regardless of what circumstances they were facing. It seemed odd for us to be speaking this when they have suffered much more persecution for being followers of Christ than I have. I was very humbled to see these families who have decided to all live together for support and love toward one another. Seeing many toothbrushes in the bathroom in one cup was a visual that I will never forget.

Many of these brothers and sisters have been persecuted for their faith. Some have had their insurance taken away, their children have not been allowed in school, and many have been false accused of things they didn't do. One of the things we noticed is that they needed good gospel literature and Bibles. We are going to make that need known and will attempt to help in that matter. From there we drove on to another fellowship. They get together in a meeting room that is disguised as best it can be and is the size of approx. 8x8. What joy these people have and great love for one another. Truly they model Christian love. This has completed our first day and what a day it was. The Lord gave us great favor and now it is time to get a little rest before we go into town again for distribution of gospel literature. We want to saturate busy places so as to make the gospel unavoidable and read by as many as possible. May the Lord bless our futile attempts.

John 7:37-38 "On the last day , that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and CRIED out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture says, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

Tuesday April 17, 2007--We have had an incredible two days in Bhutan. At present over 700 tracts have gone out, numerous one on one conversations about God's way of salvation. The highlite of today would be the opportunity the Lord gave us when we went into a storefront and handed out tracts to two young ladies. I told them I had some good news from a far country which would be water to their soul. After they took them, I had no idea if they even understood me. One of the ladies said, "are you a Christian?" I said yes, and we are here to speak of the good news, She said she was and that opened up quite a dialogue. The other young lady was not a Christian, but through her friend had heard about Jesus. Her problem was that she saw Jesus as one of many gods. I went through the gospel with her, from Creation to the Cross showing her that Jesus Christ is the one true God and only He can offer eternal life. She said she wanted to "follow Jesus" and that she was willing to forsak eher false gods. Her name is 'Pabrita." Susna, the other young girl was going to help her in her walk with the Lord. We gave her many materials to pass out and use and were greatly encouraged to see her excitement.

We continued to hand out tracts and materials throughout the day and also into the evening. We were being watched in the evening by a gentlemen from Bhutan. Every where we went he was there. The government will hire spies to watch the "whiteys" or tourists, to make sure they are doing nothing illegal. I must say, I have never been faced with the idea of possibly going to jail, etc.. This tested my faith and at times the attack from the enemy was great. However, it is not by might nor by power but by His Spirit says the Lord. He gave us strength and boldness. At one point a police officer was following behind us looking for anything we may have left on benches, etc.. We came up to a taxit driver and gave him a tract and before you know it, many of the taxi drivers were coming up to receive this good news. With the police right behind us we had to make somewhat of a speedy departure. We watched as he went up to the drivers and checked the literature that they had received.

We ended the night with a conversation with a young well to do business man. He said his fiance was a Christian and gave us a ride home. We shared Christ with him and he knew that God was really trying to get his attention. His biggest hurdle was that he knew he would lose his family business as well as friends and family by following Jesus. This part of the world if one becomes a Christian you can be pretty assured that they have counted the cost and are willing to follow the Lord no matter what. We gave him a book from Mark Cahill, "One heart beat away." He said he would read it and was very thankful for our meeting him and sharing with him. What a way to end the night with this divine appoiintment. His name was Karka. We also meant two young teenage boys who were Christians and gave them some literature and encouraged them to share the good news.

God has allowed to do and go where I never thought possible. He is the God of the impossible.

Psalm 9:20 "Put them in fear, O Lord: that the nations may know themselves to be but men."

Thursday April 19, 2007--Yesterday, was somewhat of a blur as I suffered terribly from a headache and diarrhea. However, through that the work carried on and tracts and literature went out. This morning I feel much better and rejuvenated to continue on here in Bhutan. This country is so serene with the majestic creation of the Lord, yet is so spiritually dark with their buddists religion. We have visited a couple of monasteries. One while they were worshipping to their domonic gods. It was blackness is the only way to describe it. We were able to give out some tracts very secretly to some young boys who had been set apart to be monks by their demonic ancestors. As we traveled along the moutaneous roads we would get out an visit with those who were working  on the roads. At some places there were up to twenty or so people. Most of them understood Nepali, and Jesse preached to them in Nepali. It was awesome as once again we met two believers along the roadside and were able to give them literature and one of them, who didn't have a Bible, I gave her mine.

Last night we also fellowshipped with another group of believers. It really reminded me of the book of Acts where they gathered in homes to encourage, exhort and hear the wor dof the Lord. This Pastor's wife had spent six months in jail because she was falsely accused of drowning a child during a baptism service. One young ladt told the story of how her family was denied an opportunity to buy land because they were Christian. Persecution is real over here and the government hates Christians. One thing that really touched my heart was a young boy of about 12 was in fellowship for the first time and recently came to the Lord. His family were not believers, but by the grace of God, he was saved. What boldness to come by yourself at that age. We ended the day by rejoining the second home church we visited on Monday.

We spoke and taught on Biblical principles to use in sharing your faith. One young lady stood up and addressed us and said she had been praying that God would send someone to teach and encourage them in their faith and we were an answer to prayer. Talk about humbling. During that time I felt so un worthy (which I am) to be addressing these faithful believers who have suffered much for the cause of Christ and then to hear her say that. Who is this God that He is mindful of us and would choose to use us for His glory? He is the Lord strong and mighty!!!

We ended the night on a very difficult situation. As we were walking home after staurating the town with literature, we flagged down a vehicle and asked dirtections to our hotel and we didn't wuite now if were had gone to far. These guys, at least two of them appeared drunk, but were willing to help us. They told us it was just up aways and so we thanked them, gave them some tracts to read and kept walking. One of the guys got out and proceeded to walk with us. We told him we were o.k. and their response was that they were in their country now and we were to do things their way. The vehicle went ahead and stopped at the turn off to the hotel. As we got there the guy through out the gospel literature, cursed us and we responded back, which we shouldn't have done. Anyway, this set him off more and they eventually drove down to our hotel. They awoke the hotel owner and made quite a disturbance. The hotel owner told them to go home and they wouldn't and actually broke down the door of the entry way.

We saw this from our hotel room and went out and told them their problem was with us not the hotel owner. Jesse, took the tract from one of the drunk men and that set him off to try to attack Jesse and get the tract back, obviously for evidence. This encountered wuite a rucus and the other drunk man hit Jesse twice. I set him to the ground and eventually the other guy was released from Jesse, by a swift chop to the hand (Jesse knows karate). At that point I went to the hotel room and hid the remaining tracts outside. They were threatening to get the police and have us and Karma arrested for distributing illegal literature. Karma, was able to get them to finally leave and nothing else happened that evening. Needless to say it was an early morning.

Friday April 20, 2007--As we depart Bhutan I am somewhat concerned about the evening before and if anything will happen to Karma. I was thankful to be boarding the plane, but also thankful to have been able to do what the Lord called us to do. I will continual to pray for Karma, the believers, their churches and Bhutan. God is doing a work there and it was really powerful to see that although the country can say no to the gospel, that doesn't stop the all sovereign God from accomplishing his purposes. The flight went well and what a beautiful ending to this portion of the trip as we flew by the three largest mountains in the world, Mt. Everest being the largest. They were absolutlet majestic and stood out as great pillars created by a great and powerul Creator.

Friday April 20, 2007 As mentioned above we returned safely and have spent the rest of the day in much needed rest. tomorrow we will be teaching at Zion Salvation Church on "how to share your faith." This is a great opportunity that the Lord has opened up and am looking forward to it. For now, sleep is what is calling me.

Distribution, open air preaching, evangelism training in Kathmandu, Nepal

Saturday, April 21, 2007--Jesse and I were invited to come and share on how to share your faith. This gathering of brothers and sisters is a sweet fellowship and the presence of the Lord this day as been a great blessing. Jesse, exhorted and encouraged them to be bold in their witness and to not lose heart and then I did the practical side of the teaching in regards to evangelism. In this part of the country it is important to lay a good foundation with creation, the fall of man, use the law to prove to people that they are fallen themselves, and then present the glorious cross of Christ. This was very well received and again the Lord blessed us with this opportunity. My prayer is that the lines of communication with this church will remain open and we can return for more training and actual hands on evangelism.

Sunday, April 22, 2007--We are targeting a very busy intersection today, next to a buddhist shrine where lots of people congregate. Our goal is to open air preach and then distribute literature to hungry souls. We used our pick-up for elevation in preaching and the Lord drew a sizable crowd. We gave out 1100 Bibles and several hundred copies of the Gospel of John and hundreds of tracts. The Lord gave us favor and boldness in this environment and the word went forth in abundance.

I was able to visit with two young gentlemen about Christ after the preaching. They asked what Jesus could do for them now to improve their lifes as they are fairly happy. I told them their need was for that of eternal life and reconciliation to God. It reminded me of the people who followed Jesus because He fed them (temporal needs), but when He told them their true need that of spiritual food, they departed and followed Him no more (John 6). I took them through the law and they admitted sinning against God. When I asked them what they have to pay God with on the day of judgment, it went dead silent. They admitted they had nothing to pay God with for their sinning against Him.

I proceded to ask them what if someone was willing to pay their fine for them and cleare the slate with God? They though that would be awesome. I told them of Jesus and how He took their punishment as a substitute and died for them and rose again from the dead and offers eternal life in Him. I believe the Lord showed them much clearer than before their need for Christ and eternal life and in light of eternity this life is but a vapor.

At that point we wnet to the top of the buddhist shrine all along the way handing out the "way to God" through Jesus Christ our Lord. A few years ago, one would get arrested for doing this, but the Lord has opened this door of opportunity in this part of the world and one must be diligent about taking advantage of it.

In the evening we targeted another highly visible and congested area. It was so congested that we were unable to get out of the pick-up to distribute. So, we handed out the Bibles form the back of the pick-up. In twenty minuted we hande dout 1300 Bibles. It was amazing to see the hysteria this caused. We could have handed out many more thousands of Bibles had we had them. Frome their we went to a hindu shrine and preached to many people. It was amazing to see the small crowd grow into nearly a hundred or more in minutes. This all by the Spirit of God. After preaching we handed out Gosple's of John to those interested in knowing Christ and more about Him. Many hands went up and hundreds of John's went out.

One young man asked for several to be able to take back to his village and distribute. I don't know if he was a believer or became one, it was interesting. It reminded me of the "women at the well" (John 4), where she went into town and told them, she met a man who told her everything she ever did and then posed the question, "could this be the Christ." Another young man asked Bishnu if what we said was really true in that he had to forsake all of his gods for Jesus. For the period since I have been here we have handed out over 7800 books of John, over 4000 Bibles and countless thousands of Gospel tracts. In addition to that, the Lord has given us opportunity to preach and teach in four churches, open air preach to hundreds and share one on one to many. It has truly been a fruitful time.

Monday April 23, 2007--The trip is winding down and I am somewhat running on fumes, and looking forward to seeing my family who I miss dearly. Today, we are targeting a park in the central part of the city that many people frequent during the day. Our goal is to preach open air and then distribute literature to those interested. When we arrived we noticed a large gathering of people listening to a person who was up in a tree make a political statement. Quite interesting.

I proceded to stand on a park bench for elevation and address a few people about a message of hope I wanted to share. What started out to be about fifteen people in minutes grew to well over 150 people perhaps closder to two hundred. God is so good. I shared the message from creation, to the fall, to proving them to be fallen by the use of the law and then preached Christ crucified. The Lord gave us great favor and boldness. Many wanted Bibles and books of John. They pressed into us and it got a little shaky on that park bench, but we were able to stay standing and get them out very quickly.

Afterwards, Bishnu debated with a muslim and many gathered for that and then many and I mean many gathered and were having a debate. I asked Bishnu what it was about and he saids they were discussing our message and if indeed it was true. It was incredible to see the affect the Holy Spirit had on this group. As we left and were going to another location, Bishnu received a phone call from a man asking to see him and wanting to know about Jesus. he had received a Gospel of John just minutes earlier. Praise God for the power of His word.

The rest of the day was spent distributing and sharing Christ with any that would listen. This was a great ending day to a great mission. All in all over 10,000 gospel's of John went out, over 5000 Bibles and several thousand tracts, along with the hundreds who heard the gospel, those who repsonded, and the churches who were trained. I stand in "awe" of this God who allows us to partake in His glorious work of calling sinners to repentance and faith.

Since that time we have heard of a man who got saved in Bhutan. He found Karma and asked where we were and Karma told him we were gone. He was dejected at this because he wanted us to know that he read the tract of the God we told him about and the next day something strange happened, he believed upon Christ for His salvation and knows Jesus is real. He wants Karma to go with him in June and tell his family about this Jesus. Praise God. Also, we have heard that Bishnu has received numerous phone calls from people who received the Gospel of John (contact info on back) and want to know this Jesus and where they can attend church. What encouraging words, for my brothers and sisters our labor is not in vain in the Lord.
