Hello friends,

Here is a simple question, but much debated topic. Are the spiritual gifts we see named, primarily the ones in 1 Cor. 12 available today? Have some of them ceased and are some still operable? My comment would be that God gives to each of us spiritual gifts at salvation, or at various times in various ways as needed to fulfill His purposes and for our joy in serving Him and ministering to others. All the gifts are of equal value, although some are what we would label as more spectacular verses common. Nevertheless, God has purposed and given as He wills to each one in the body for the profit of all. I like what Alistair Begg said, Spiritual gifts are not toys to be played with, trophies to be admired, but tools to be used for the furthering of the Kingdom of God.

It is also clear, that not one gift is given based on our merit. They are grace gifts "charisma" in the Greek, where we get Charismatic, and are given by God, so therefore none of us should boast as if we have obtained a higher level of spirituality because we have been given one gift verses another. This is what was going on in the church of Corinth and goes on today in many circles and often if not most times causes division, pride and jealousy. My firend what saith you?  Feel free to post your comments by clicking on "comments."

"Modern evangelical Christians place great stress on being "born again",which is rightly understood to be the work of the Holy Spirit in regeneration. As He comes in regenerating power, the Spirit makes His presence known as an inner witness to the believer's new status as a child of God. The new believer can now pray "Abba, Father," expressing the intimate and confident relationship of children to their Lord God within, the Spirit also guides and enables the new believer in a transforming life of sanctification and spiritual maturity. The godless condition of society today, with evil becoming increasingly rampant, calls for a Spirit-filled church that can meet the wiles of Satan with a supernatural demonstration of Holy Spirit power."

Luke 4:18 (King James Version) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, * Remember the "dual working" of the Holy Spirit. At the new birth, the Holy Spirit comes within man, regenerating his human spirit. At the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit comes Upon man, anointing him to do deeds, signs, utterances for the benefit of humanity. Blessings!
