Hello friends,
Here is a simple question, but much debated topic. Are the spiritual gifts we see named, primarily the ones in 1 Cor. 12 available today? Have some of them ceased and are some still operable? My comment would be that God gives to each of us spiritual gifts at salvation, or at various times in various ways as needed to fulfill His purposes and for our joy in serving Him and ministering to others. All the gifts are of equal value, although some are what we would label as more spectacular verses common. Nevertheless, God has purposed and given as He wills to each one in the body for the profit of all. I like what Alistair Begg said, Spiritual gifts are not toys to be played with, trophies to be admired, but tools to be used for the furthering of the Kingdom of God.
It is also clear, that not one gift is given based on our merit. They are grace gifts "charisma" in the Greek, where we get Charismatic, and are given by God, so therefore none of us should boast as if we have obtained a higher level of spirituality because we have been given one gift verses another. This is what was going on in the church of Corinth and goes on today in many circles and often if not most times causes division, pride and jealousy. My firend what saith you?
