door to door

The first question that one may ask is, is door to door witnessing an effective method in reaching the lost? I believe it is. The reason is, that scripture lends support to it. Acts 5:42 "and daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ."

Secondly, we see the mormon's and jehovah's witnesses doing it. It is a proven fact that they are growing. Think about that, if they, who are CULTS do it, shouldn't we who have the truth about salvation? I believe we should, particularly in areas where there are not a lot of people such as rural areas. I have personally been able ot share Christ with many people, plant seed and leave gospel literature right at the door step.

The first thing one must do to prepare, is to be in prayer and have others prayer for you. When you go out, know that God has heard your prayer and the prayer of others and will be with you. The next thing to remember is, that you are on their property, be respectful and discerning.

Door to door witnessing is an awesome place to use tracts. The best policy is to introduce yourself, tell them what your doing and politley ask them if they would like a gospel booklet. Some of the questions I then ask are; Do you know if you have eternal life, or, has anyone ever explained to you God's way of salvation? Be prepared for responses such as, "I hope I'm going to heaven", or "I already have a church."

In the case of "I hope I'm going to heaven." You can encourage them that the Bible says we can know for sure. None of us would want to wait till we die and go before God and find out we were wrong. If they are receptive then take them through God's standard of perfection. That is, the ten commandments. Ask them if they have kept them in word, thought and deed such as, lieing, stealing, using God's name in vain, etc.. Let them know that God looks at someone who lusts as an adulterer, and someone who has ever hated anyone as an murderer.

The law will show them that they are guilty, and give them a knowledge of their sin and that no amount of good works will ever clear the debt. Then present Christ and what He did at the cross for them and the fact that salvation is a free gift from God that is not something to be earned but received by faith.

In the case of "I go to church", tell them that's good and that your not there to get them to go to another church, but to hand out gospel booklets and see if anyone wants to know about God's way of salvation. You may get other responses. Don't worry, God will give you the words to speak.

Please remember that your job is to faithfully plant the seed of the gospel. Not everyone will be willing to hear you explain God's way of salvation so don't get discouraged. If you can leave a gospel booklet with a word of encouragement to read and be prepared for eternity, that is a victory. If you feel led leave them with a phone number where they can call you if they have questions. Also, be prepared for rejection because it will come. Remember they are not rejecting you but Christ.

In closing my friend let me leave you with this, Eph. 5:19-20 "And for you (me), that utterance may be given to you (me), that you (I) may open your (my) mouth boldly , to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which you (I) are an ambassador in bonds; that therein you (I) may speak boldly, as you (I) ought to speak."

God bless and the Lord will be with you.
